On Wednesday, the DeFacto Dialogue Platform and the Hoz Center for Community Development hosted a public dialogue session in the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria under the title “The Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression.”
The event brought together local activists and civil society members to raise awareness of freedom of expression as a fundamental and influential human right that must be protected and promoted.
The session focused on several key themes:
- The current state of freedom of expression: Challenges and opportunities.
- Legal and constitutional frameworks: The evolution of laws and regulations governing freedom of speech and the press.
- Socio-political environment: The impact of social and political conditions on the exercise of this right.
Participants provided a series of recommendations aimed at strengthening the right to freedom of expression and encouraging broader democratic practices.
The DeFacto platform continues to organize forums and discussions that bring together media professionals, cultural figures, political actors, and local and international stakeholders.
The initiative aims to foster a culture of dialogue and ensure that outcomes and recommendations are translated into meaningful action.
