The event was organized by the Institute for Peace &amp; Diplomacy (IPD) in partnership with the University of Calgary\u2019s School of Public Policy and Thompson Rivers University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The IPSF is recognized as Canada\u2019s leading annual platform for discussing economic and diplomatic policies related to the Indo-Pacific region. It brings together senior policymakers, economic experts, academics, and diplomats from Canada, the United States, and other countries around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">This year\u2019s forum was held under the theme \u201cRenewing Indo-Pacific Strategy in a Deglobalizing World Economy.\u201d \u00a0Discussions focused on rising geopolitical and economic challenges and explored ways to build flexible and diversified partnerships that could strengthen Canada\u2019s position in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Zozan Alloush, Senior Advisor at the Defacto Platform for Dialogue, represented the organization in a session titled \u201cThe Levant in Transition: Regional and International Dynamics,\u201d which took place at the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">During the session, Alloush presented Defacto\u2019s perspectives on several key issues, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Assessing the Syrian government\u2019s performance in local governance and its responsiveness to community needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">Prospects for dialogue between Northeast Syria and Damascus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;\">The absence of a comprehensive Western strategy to support governance and development in Syria, and the need to back dialogue and decentralization initiatives as pathways toward sustainable solutions and long-term stability in the Levant.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Defacto Platform for Dialogue participated in the fifth edition of the Indo-Pacific Strategy Forum (IPSF 2025), held on November 17\u201318, 2025, in Ottawa, Canada.
